Thank you for visiting our website. This page is about the vision we had in mind when setting this thing on foot.

The Bükk Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired came to being in autumn 2019 right at the heart of a forest. The founders were looking to set up an organisation through which to encourage the blind and poor-sighted inhabitants of greater Miskolc to leave the concrete jungle and enjoy the curative climate of the Bükk mountains from time to time. We insist that the lack of exercise, which often pertains to non-seers, should be replaced by an active lifestyle.

As for the cultural side, we are building an audiobook collection, constantly enhancing it with adaptations from works of the best-known Hungarian as well as international authors. Of course, we are aware there are audiobooks available from the Hungarian Electronic Library and other sources. Nevertheless, we don't think it's all done; there's certainly plenty of work left for us to do. To encourage our Hungarian membership to learn foreign languages, we are making audiobooks in English too. The material ranges from English and Irish folk stories to Kipling and Shakespeare.

We deem it just as important to remind the younger generation that a visually impaired person should never be an object of pity. Therefore we hold presentations at primary and secondary schools to try and convert the condescending attitude of students into helpfulness and understanding.

The free legal consultancy service we operate is provided by a lawyer who has a deep insight into the situation of blind people and is an experienced supporter of the cause.

On the basis of mutual respect we are open to cooperating with other NGOs regardless of their field of activity. Members of such organisations are more than welcome to our events. We are happy to work with them on improving the quality of the lives of the handicapped so they do not feel inferior to the healthy members of society.
